News From Philadelphia to the Front Official Selection to the Maine Jewish Film Festival in Portland, MaineScreening March 21, 2007  www.mjff.org

From Philadelphia to the Front was awarded "Critic's Top 10 pics of 2006" in the Winter 2006 edition of the magazine "Jewish Film World".
George Robinson, film critic writes:
"The best film in this year's New York Jewish Film Festival was one of the shortest ones. Judy Gelles and Marianne Bernstein, the directors of "From Philadelphia to the Front", knew exactly what they wanted to say, said it and got out. Their 37-minute film takes six Jewish residents of Philly and gets them to talk about their experiences in the armed forces during World War II. They are a carefully chosen cross-section of the Jewish community of that city as it was in 1939; a half-dozen articulate, decent men who saw a job that needed to be done and, despite anti-Semitism from within their own ranks, went out and did it. Like the film itself, they make no claims to greater insight or historical importance, offer no boasts of heroism. They just are who they are. As a result, "From Philadelphia to the Front" is a rarity, a film that one leaves wishing it were at least an hour longer. But it's near perfect as it is. www.fromphiladelphiatothefront.com
